The Cape
(Individual species pages under construction)
South Africa's Cape Floral Region is home to 30 described species of Drosera, all of which are endemic. The species in the Cape can generally be categorized as either being perennial growers that grow throughout the year in permanently wet areas, or obligate "wintergrowers" that survive the dry summers as fleshy, specialized roots. Even the perennial growers can experience some dormancy if conditions get too cold or hot, but the wintergrowers are obligate geophytes. Taxonomic work on Drosera in the Cape is ongoing, and there are many species yet to be described.
